Belmaya’s film Educate Our Daughters has been officially selected for the Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival in November! She has been invited to Canada to present her film, which is up for the Air Canada Award.
This is a huge deal for Belmaya. She has never been out of Nepal before. She didn’t even have a passport. But has been up and down the long dusty highway to Kathmandu to get her passport and apply for her Canadian visa (with huge thanks to filmmaker Prasna Dangol who helped her navigate the forms and documents).
A big IF still hangs over the venture. IF we can get funding for the very expensive airfare, and IF her visa is approved in time, she’ll be heading to Toronto for her screening on 14th November, and I’ll be joining her from London!
